Saudi Arabia’s Potential Hosting of WTA Finals Raises Concerns for Women’s Rights

While Saudi Arabia has already repatriated the organization of the next editions of the Next Gen Masters, several serious rumors believe that it will soon be the turn of the WTA Finals to be relocated to this country where women clearly do not enjoy the same right. only men.

While several players have come out in favor of this potential organization in the Arabian Peninsula, in particular because of the very significant financial gains, the former world number 1, Chris Evert, urged the players to move on, mentioning in particular the legacy of the WTA.

“I would prefer the WTA not to go to Saudi Arabia. Obviously they have human rights issues and everything, just the way they treat women. I would be against. But I don’t have the right to vote. (…) The WTA is synonymous with equality. We have been leaders and role models in women’s sport. We have made decisions over the past 50 years with integrity and dignity. We have empowered women…Take less money and do the right thing. »
