Santi Mina is no longer a player of the Celta. The club has communicated this Friday the unilateral termination of the contract that linked the striker sentenced to four years in prison for sexual abuse. In this way, from A Headquarters it cuts to the chase with a footballer who had been training alone in the Afouteza sports city since last July 12.
This whole matter has caused a deep headache in the Celta offices. TO Santi Mina still had a year left on his contract (plus another optional) and the club had tried —unsuccessfully— to repeat the loan formula to a foreign league. So after “meticulously analyzing the different legal alternatives available, Celta has taken “the firm decision to unilaterally terminate the player’s employment contract,” says the statement just published by the entity.
Celta also strikes down Santi Mina without paying him the salary that he had left to receive. The club has chosen to take the dismissal to labor conciliation, which is the step prior to judicialization of the case in the event that there is no agreement between both parties. This procedure is very common and usually resolves itself in a short time. The deadlines would be extended, yes, in the event that the dismissal was also brought before the courts.
The dismissal of Santi Mina occurs three weeks after the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) ratified the sentence of four years in prison for Mina for sexual abuse. The striker has been prosecuted for some events that occurred in 2017 in Mojácar (Almería), when the man from Vigo sexually assaulted a woman in a van who was at the time having sex with fellow footballer David Goldar. The sentence, however, is still not final, since Mina’s defense will appeal to the Supreme Court.
Celta explains that this decision has “the strong support of LaLiga” and endorses the position of the club, which has already condemned the events on two occasions since the judicial process began. Today, along with the statement announcing the dismissal, they stress that “Celta’s values are above all else and that the club would defend them to the last consequences, including any repercussions it might have on sports planning.”
