San Francisco “gives away” quarterback hope – sport.ORF.at

According to US media reports, the San Francisco 49ers are parting ways with quarterback Trey Lance. The National Football League (NFL) team agreed to a swap deal with the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for the right to access a player in the fourth round of the draft. A deal well below the original value of the highly traded Lance.

Lance was only selected third on the talent exchange for young footballers by the 49ers in 2021 and was considered the designated successor to regular Jimmy Garoppolo. In order to get him safely, the 49ers even gave up three access rights in the first round to the competition.

In the first two games of last season, the 23-year-old also started, but then he broke his ankle. Because Garoppolo also got injured during the season, the unknown Brock Purdy came into action and immediately gained fame for being the first to call “Mr. Irrelevant”, as the last player to be selected in the draft, with seven wins in the first seven games, spectacularly played the role as a regular for the season that now begins in two weeks.
