RTL Unveils Broadcasting Concept for NFL Season and Announces First Ten Matches

Cologne (dpa-AFX) – Just over three weeks before the start of the regular season of the North American professional football league, RTL presented its broadcasting concept for NFL broadcasts. In addition, the free television channel indicated on Thursday the first ten matches which will be broadcast on RTL and on the paid streaming service RTL+. The RTL group’s Nitro television channel, also free-to-air, currently broadcasts preparation matches called Preseason.

The regular season kicks off Sept. 8 (Friday, 2:20 a.m.) with Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Detroit Lions. The season opener will be broadcast on RTL. On the following three Sundays (10.9., 17.9., 24.9.), two matches will be broadcast in prime time at 7:00 p.m. and 10:25 p.m. on RTL and one match will be broadcast exclusively at 7:00 p.m. on RTL+.

On Sunday, the preview of the matches will now be available free of charge on the RTL+ streaming platform. From 6:15 p.m., the presenters of RTL and RTL+ will present themselves together. From 7:00 p.m., the RTL+ team then meets in its own studio.

The RTL group had secured the previous year, to everyone’s surprise, a large batch of NFL rights, thus dethroning ProSiebenSat.1. According to the Koln group, the free channels RTL and Nitro and the paid streaming service RTL+ offer around 80 live broadcasts per season. The paid Internet channel DAZN also has a full NFL package /clu/DP/mis.
