Romo’s UD Ibiza begins a new era against contender Córdoba CF

The moment of truth has arrived for Guillermo Fernández Romo’s UD Ibiza in its new era in the First RFEF. The time of tests and rehearsals comes to an end after almost a month and a half of preseason and El Arcángel de Córdoba is the first and complicated place in which the sky-blue club intends to cement its candidacy for promotion (9:30 p.m.).

The light blue squad, which already has 23 federation licences, has formed a squad of many carats with 21 new faces and is awaiting the arrival of Rubén Castro, who would be the icing on the cake for one of the teams designated to fight for the first positions (under pain of yielding to some player).

But as the UD Ibiza coach has been saying, the role of favorite has to be transferred to the pitch in the form of victories. And the first one should come against a Córdoba team that, although it starts with the vitola of a candidate, seems to be framed in a lower step than that of the island team, who they place in the list of bosses of the League in group 2 together with Málaga CF and Real Murcia.

In sports, Fernández Romo has not yet decided on his gala eleven and today it is foreseeable that he will put those he considers in better physical shape after a long preseason. What seems clear is that Álex Gallar, Eugeni and Obolskii will take the offensive baton if there are no setbacks.

During the preparation matches, UD Ibiza has shown to have an important defensive solidity but also certain deficiencies in the generation of scoring chances. Thus, they have settled the seven friendlies with three victories, against the lower-class teams Valencia Mestalla (1-0), Penya Independent (4-0) and Manresa (2-0); two goalless draws against Formentera from Segunda RFEF and Nàstic from Primera RFEF; and two defeats against Albacete in Segunda (2-0) and Sabadell in the same category as the sky-blues (2-1).

Córdoba CF, an unknown quantity

For its part, Córdoba CF has strengthened this season with 10 players after signing a sad ninth position last year, including defender Adri Castellano, winger Adilson Mendes and Balearic striker Alberto Toril. The excellent Isma Ruiz has also joined the Cordovan club, who together with the veteran midfielder José Luis Recio, with a long past in the First Division, are the two most sought-after footballers in the Asturian Iván Ania’s squad.

Rubén Castro is tied up and all that remains is to make it official

Rubén Castro will put the icing on the UD Ibiza cake if nothing goes wrong in the next few hours. The 42-year-old forward has already given the OK to his move to the sky-blue club, ruling out other offers and it will be announced after the Córdoba CF match. Rubén Castro is the top scorer in the history of Betis with 147 goals in 290 games. He is also the first player in number of appearances and the third in goals between the First and Second Division He arrives free after rescinding at Málaga CF.
