Rodrigo Pastore Extends Contract with Niners Chemnitz Until 2026: A New Chapter for the BBL Club

Rodrigo Pastore paved the way for the Niners Chemnitz basketball fairy tale – and wants to write more chapters for the Saxons. The Argentine boss has extended his contract early.

Rodrigo Pastore has extended his contract with the Niners Chemnitz, which was originally valid until 2024, until 2026. The BBL club from Saxony informed about this on Thursday morning (August 31).

Pastore: “Made incredible development”

Niners Managing Director Steffen Herhold emphasized in the official announcement: “We are very happy and proud at the same time that Rodrigo has decided to stay for a longer period of time. He is undoubtedly one of the fathers of our successes in recent years and we are convinced that with to have exactly the right man on the sidelines in Chemnitz.”

The 50-year-old Argentine said: “We, the entire Niners organization, have made an incredible development. I firmly believe that our path is far from over and that we can tackle new, high goals together. My family and I feel extremely comfortable in Chemnitz and I am very grateful for the great trust that the club management, our fans and sponsors have in me.”

In office since 2015 – longest-serving BBL head coach

Eight years ago, Pastore took over the team, which was then almost relegated from the second division. “It was a huge stroke of luck to get Rodrigo to Chemnitz in 2015,” says Managing Director Pastore. The beginning of a unique success story that reached its first peak in 2020 with the club’s promotion to the BBL for the first time. In their second BBL year, the Niners made the playoffs, qualified for the European Cup and repeated that coup last season.

Pastore is now the longest-serving coach on the BBL sidelines. In all likelihood, he will already be in charge of his 300th competitive game in charge of the Chemnitz team next October. “Such loyalty to a club is very rare in professional sport these days and with the early contract extension we have laid the foundation for hopefully many more successful years to come,” said Steffen Herhold. The fourth first division season of the Saxons starts on September 27th with the away game at the reigning champions in Ulm.
