For the first time in 7 years, Gael Monfils manages to beat two Top 20s in a row, after Cameron Norrie, he dominated an Alex de Minaur, certainly at the end of his rope, 7/5 6/4, showing once again an excellent level of play. He will have the privilege of finding Novak Djokovic in 1/8th.

Another glorious former, Stan Wawrinka who sends Frances Tiafoe home, winning 6/3 6/4. Solid, Stefanos Tsitsipas concluded against hopeful Ben Shelton 7/6 7/6.

The 1/8th finals

Carlos Alcaraz ???????? vs Tommy Paul ???????? : 7/6 6/7 (0) 6/3

Beaten by the American in his two previous confrontations, the world No. 1 reacted well even if his game, especially on the important points, suffered a lot of waste.

This was particularly the case on the three match points he obtained at the end of the second round before diving in the tie break. But Alcaraz, exceptional champion, forgot everything before achieving a big third set, despite the interruptions due to the rain.

Stan Wawrinka ????????vs Max Purcell ???????? : 4/6 2/6

Day of celebration for Australian tennis with the 70th in the world, and his very offensive game, follower of the volley service, which very clearly dominates the immense Wawrinka to offer himself, like Popyrin, his first quarter in Masters 1000.

Stefanos Tsitsipas ???????? vs Hubert Hurkacz ???????? : 3/6 4/6

Very very impressive on serve, but also in the game, by succeeding in breaking the Greek twice at the start of each set, the Polish giant offers himself his first Top 10 in 2023 and it will be difficult to stop.

Alexei Popyrin ???????? vs Emil Ruusuvuori ???????? : 6/2 1/6 6/3

Drafted following the withdrawal of Murray, after his defeat in qualification, the tall Australian, 1.96m, plays in a totally relaxed way and brilliantly comes to seek a place in the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career.

Ranked 58th at the ATP before this tournament, he is now guaranteed to climb, at least, to 40th place, which will be his best ranking.

Mackenzie McDonald ???????? vs Adrian Mannarino ???????? : 4/6 0/3 abandon

Six years after reaching a quarter-final in the Masters 1000 in Canada, the No. 1 Habs, ATP 32, reached this stage of the competition for the second time in his career, following the abandonment of a sick McDonald.

Alexander Zverev ???????? vs Daniil Medvedev ???????? : 6/4 5/7 6/4

Big match, as expected, between these two tenors of world tennis, with a scenario that will remain undecided until the end.

Pushed to his limits in the third set, Zverev saved two break points before managing to break his opponent, then to conclude the game on his serve from his first match point.

Dusan Lajovic ???????? vs Taylor Fritz ???????? : 0/5 abandon

Hit in the toe, the Serb did not drag on the court.

Gael Monfils ???????? vs Novak Djokovic ???????? : 4/6 2/6

After having praised Monfils, in the 1/16th final with incredible qualifiers, worthy of a Grand Slam victory, the specialized press fell back to earth. The Boss inflicted a dry and quick defeat on the Habs, the 19th in 19 confrontations.

Djokovic is simply too strong for Gael Monfils, however admirable.

The 1/4 finals

Carlos Alcaraz ???????? vs Max Purcell ???????? : 4/6 6/3 6/4

Placed around the 200th place in the world at the start of the year, author of a superb series of victories on the Challenger circuit, the 25-year-old Australian has now made a name for himself on the ATP circuit.

Now 47th, after his defeat, he will have delighted everyone with his game of the 1990s, excessive volley service, numerous slices, he confused the world No. 1 as he had done with Ruud and Wawrinka.

Not really brilliant, Alcaraz will still win thanks to his ability to play the important points well. But to win against Hurkacz, his next opponent, he will have to raise his level of play.

Hubert Hurkacz ???????? vs Alexei Popyrin ???????? : 6/1 7/6 (8)

The Australian’s incredible career came to a halt this afternoon in Cincinnati against a once again impressive Hurkacz on serve. With 92% of points gained behind his first, the Pole did not leave much, even if Popyrin got a set point during the tie break of the second round.

Adrian Mannarino ???????? vs Alexander Zverev ???????? : 2/6 3/6

For the 8th time in 8 confrontations, the German wins against the Habs. Author of an excellent tournament, with his weapons, Mannarino does not have the means to do better and we must salute him for making the most of his qualities.

Taylor Fritz ???????? vs Novak Djokovic ???????? : 0/6 4/6

Expected by his public, the American was completely eaten by a very impressive Djoko.

The 1/2 finals

Carlos Alcaraz ???????? vs Hubert Hurkacz ???????? : 2/6 7/6 (4) 6/3

Once again manhandled by an absolutely huge Pole for two rounds, the incredible Carlitos will find the means to score six points in a row in the tie break of the second set.

After saving a match point a few minutes before, he was then led 4/1 by Hurkacz before reversing the course of this match as a champion. Behind his opponent marks time while the world No. 1 increases his level.

Alexander Zverev ????????  vs Novak Djokovic ???????? : 6/7 (5) 5/7

After a month without playing, since his defeat in the Wimbledon final, the Boss reached the final without having lost a single set. Zverev, back to a high level, tried everything, but as usual Djoko was surgical in the tie break of the first set.

He then breaks at the start of the second set against a combative German who will debreak at 5/4 against him. Immediately after, the Serb presses the accelerator, breaks again and climbs for the 57th time in his career in the final of a Masters 1000, a record to beat.
