Abu Dhabi Shines at International Judo Federation World Championships: Highlights from Day 2

All eyes were on Abu Dhabi during the second day of the International Judo Federation World Championships.

In the Mubadala arena, the tatamis were the scene of historic moments with the stars of world judo.

A dynamic opening ceremony showcased the beauty of UAE culture, while providing a beautiful display of judo.

Marius Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation, and Naser Al Tamimi, Secretary General of the UAE Judo Federation, officially launched this incredible event.

Japanese domination in the -66 kg category

Tanaka RyomaJapanese number 3, faced his teammate and Japanese number 4, Takeoka Takeshiboth having had a fantastic journey.

An all-Japanese final saw Tanaka takes the lead with 2 combined scores equivalent to an Ippon.

Japan demonstrates once again his domination in the -66 kg category.

The medals were presented by Guardian Girls International CEO Shin KOYAMADA.

“It’s my first world championship, I really gave everything, and I’m really looking forward to wearing the red number, the sign of the world champion”says Tanaka Ryoma.

A breathtaking finale between Huh Mimi and Christa Deguchi

The public also came in large numbers to see one of the biggest stars of the moment, Christa Deguchi, the reigning world champion, who reached the final with flying colors. And she seemed well on her way to keeping her red bib.

With a point behind 15 seconds from the end, Heydarov performed his signature technique to score Ippon and become world champion. A huge wave of relief and emotion for the Azerbaijanis who finally took first place.

The medals were presented by the Secretary General of the NOC of Azerbaijan, Azer Aliyev.

“This will remain as one of the greatest moments of my life, in Abu Dhabi I made history. But there remains one story, in Paris I hope I will write others”declared Hidayat Heydarov, moved, after his victory.
