Lionel Messi’s debut with Inter Miami in the MLS had a luxury audience in the stands of the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. Among the 25,000 spectators that filled the stadium was the Puerto Rican singer René Pérez, better known as Residente, together with his son Milo, who received a spectacular gift at the end of the 2-0 victory for Las Garzas.

The 45-year-old artist shared two videos on his Instagram stories with his more than 8.6 million followers. In the first he could be seen celebrating the Argentine’s goal at 89 minutes with the nine-year-old, while in the second they were already in the car after the end of the match.

“Who has the shirt?” René asked while filming his son with a bag in hand. “Me”, replied Milo, happy to know that he had in his hands the number 10 shirt with which Lionel Messi scored his first goal in MLS. “That will never wash, right?” He joked before ending the recording.

Both the singer and his son had to wait an hour to see the Argentine in action, who took a place on the substitute bench from the start due to a decision agreed with Gerardo Tata Martino. However, 30 minutes were more than enough for the man from Rosario to display his magic.

In the subsequent press conference, the Argentine coach referred to Messi’s substitution and assured that the management of the captain’s minutes was decided thinking only of the player’s well-being.

“I understand people’s desire to see him play. This is going to happen to us everywhere”, declared the former coach of Argentina, Mexico and Paraguay. “We cannot separate ourselves from the plan because doing that would be mortgaging Leo’s physique a bit and we are not here to destroy the player but so that he can perform to the best of his ability,” he continued.

Then, he told how he managed to convince the former PSG to start on the bench, something that rarely happened during his long career in professional football: “The conversation with Messi was only to explain to him that we had three games in a week, that we came from a very great wear, which was going to have to stop at some point ”.

“And he agreed,” added the coach, who met the “two objectives” that he had set: to recover players and return from this match with the three points.

Finally, Tata also confirmed, “if there is nothing unusual”, that their captain will be present in the next two games: on Wednesday against Nashville at home and on Sunday at home against Los Angeles FC (LAFC), both for the MLS and with the aim of continuing to climb the table to get into the playoffs.
