The municipal council of the City of Repentigny paid tribute to Francine Payer, a remarkable woman who was greatly involved in the Repentigny community, notably as a municipal councillor, and who died on August 1st.

Having learned of the death of Francine Payer with great sadness, the Dufour administration wanted to pay tribute – at the very beginning of the session – to this woman with an exceptional career who has devoted herself entirely to her community. First a school commissioner in Le Gardeur, Ms. Payer then went into politics and served several consecutive terms as a municipal councillor, contributing, among other things, to the voluntary grouping that made it possible to form the new City of Repentigny in 2002.

Recognized as a dedicated woman with a true gift of herself, Ms. Payer was able to forge close ties with the most vulnerable people: “Volunteering was at the heart of her commitment, and she got involved with many sports organizations , community and in several charitable causes. His generosity and his unfailing support for volunteers deserve to be underlined. I would like to express my condolences to the members of his family, friends and colleagues,” said Nicolas Dufour, Mayor of Repentigny.

Chantal Deschamps, former mayor of Repentigny, also made a point of recalling how invaluable Ms. Payer’s contribution to Repentigny is: “Her remarkable political career has been marked by her solidarity as well as her dedication to local organizations. Considered a true pioneer of volunteerism in Repentigne, she leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire the community. Her disappearance leaves an immeasurable void among the citizens who knew and rubbed shoulders with her.

Moreover, following a public call for tenders, the municipal council announced the awarding of a contract to JNA Leblanc Électrique inc. for carrying out repair work on the lighting systems of the sports fields in Champigny and Laverdière parks.

In the amount of $700,979.58, this contract will more specifically allow the installation of two new lighting towers on the Champigny Park soccer field and the replacement of existing lights with an LED system, which will considerably reduce the light that is directed towards nearby residences. Baseball field No. 2 at Laverdière Park will also be equipped with a new LED lighting system to bring it into line with national development standards. Some repair work will be done on the power supply system as well as some drums.

Scheduled for in the 2023-2025 Three-Year Capital Works Plan, this work will take place from fall 2023 to spring 2024. The modernization of the lighting systems will allow soccer and baseball fans to play on these fields while enjoying a fully functional and efficient lighting, from the start of the next summer season.
