Red X, formerly Twitter, once again accepts political advertising in the US – El Sol de México

The social network X, formerly Twitter, announced on Tuesday that it will once again accept political advertising in the United States with the aim of monetizing the expensive campaigns of the presidential elections that will be held in 2024.

“Taking advantage of our commitment to free expression, we will also allow political advertising,” the company that Elon Musk has owned since October 2022 announced in a statement.

This decision reverses the ban that the social network took in 2019, together before the last presidential elections that were held in 2020.

At the time, then-CEO Jack Dorsey explained the decision to suspend political advertising globally by saying, “We believe the reach of political messaging should be earned, not bought.”

In Tuesday’s statement, X stressed that the platform will seek to “preserve free and open political discourse” while continuing to ban posts with “false or misleading content.”

“We will also provide a global ad transparency hub so everyone can review political posts being promoted on X, as well as robust screening processes to ensure only eligible groups and campaigns can advertise,” the statement said.

Last year, Musk allowed former United States President Donald Trump (2017-2021) to return to his social network, after the politician was banned in January 2021 for “inciting violence” after the assault on the Capitol on September 6. January.

However, Trump wrote again on the social network this August 24 to publish his photograph under police arrest that he was taken in jail that same day and ask for donations.
