Alex Marquez celebrated his first sprint win in the MotoGP class at Silverstone on Saturday. The Spanish Ducati rider prevailed in front of Marco Bezzecchi (ITA/Ducati) and Maverick Vinales (ESP/Aprilia). Bezzecchi had previously secured pole position for the British Grand Prix, which takes place on Sunday (2:00 p.m.) in the rain.

“It’s great to start the second half of the season like this. I’m very happy, thanks to the team. I knew it could work today. The first corner was critical, after that it went great for me,” said the beaming sprint winner, who, like his brother and six-time world champion Marc (18th), had a difficult first half behind him. Francesco Bagnaia, who is clearly the leader of the championship, only finished 14th.
Before that, Bezzecchi had beaten KTM rider Jack Miller (AUS) and Alex Marquez (ESP/Ducati) in qualifying. Here Bagnaia (ITA/Ducati) finished fourth. Many drivers, including pole setter Bezzecchi after his best time, fell in inhospitable conditions. Fabio Quartararo (FRA/Yamaha) was last.
