More than 15,000 people ask for the Princess of Asturias Award for the women’s team

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

More than 15,000 people have asked this Thursday for the Princess of Asturias Award to be granted to the players of the Spanish women’s soccer team, the brand new winner of the World Cup that was played in Australia and New Zealand, through a petition on Change.org.

The creator of the initiative has stated that just as in 2010 the “Prince of Asturias” award was awarded to the Spanish men’s soccer team for winning the World Cup in South Africa, “the logical, correct and coherent thing” would be to award the Princess of Asturias award to the women’s national soccer team, “since they have achieved the same achievement in Australia and New Zealand”.

The petition, started this Tuesday, already has more than 15,000 signatures and dozens of supportive comments. ‘The award constitutes recognition of the merit and effort of this Selection’, ‘it is an encouragement for the women to have been champions, especially with the short time that we have been competing, they deserve it’ have been some of the comments of the signatories.
