MATCH DAY! Feyenoord visiting Sparta for city derby

It’s match day again! Feyenoord travels to Spangen today, where Sparta Rotterdam is the second opponent of this Eredivisie season. The game kicks off at Het Kasteel at 2:30 PM and can be followed live on ESPN 2 and via the live blog on FR12.nl.

Feyenoord
Arne Slot’s team will play the first away game of this season on Saturday afternoon. It seems to be getting quieter on the transfer market and so no new purchases were added last week. Oussama Idrissi seems to sign again on a rental basis with Feyenoord next week, while it is still not one hundred percent certain around Luka Ivanušec. In any case, Bart Nieuwkoop is missing from the selection in Rotterdam-West, he is serving a two-match suspension.

Marcus Pedersen and Gernot Trauner are also no certainties in the match selection. Due to the upcoming transfer to Sassuolo, the Norwegian does not seem to have to count on a starting place, where he may even be left out of the selection. The Austrian has been training fully with the group for two weeks and Slot announced that he would speak with the captain on Saturday to decide whether he can play against Sparta.

Probable line-up Feyenoord
Bijlow; Geertruida, Beelen, Hancko, Hartman; Wieffer, Stengs, Zerrouki; Jahanbakhsh, Gimenez, Paixao.

Despite last week’s draw, Slot saw that his players gave everything to achieve a victory. He also expects to see that against Sparta tomorrow. “At a top club it is normal that you have to put things right. We definitely have to react. I don’t demand a win, but I do demand behavior that makes a win possible. I saw that last Sunday. The boys have everything done, but that was not enough to beat Fortuna Sittard.”

Feyenoord is in twelfth place in the competition on Saturday night. The competitors from the traditional top three both managed to win last week, but Ajax lost points at Excelsior on Saturday afternoon. PSV managed to win 1-3 at Vitesse and is on six points. It is up to Slot’s selection to grab the three points on Sunday afternoon.

Sparta Rotterdam
The club from Spangen is led by trainer Jeroen Rijsdijk. For the 46-year-old from Rotterdam, it is his first job as head coach in the Eredivisie. He managed to win his first official match last week with 1-2 against PEC Zwolle. In the preparation, they played against RKC Waalwijk (1-0 win), ADO Den Haag (1-2 win), Willem II (0-3) win, Mamelodi Sundowns (1-4 loss) and Zulte-Waregem (4- 0 profit).

Rijsdijk knows that it will be a difficult match against the reigning national champion, but also sees opportunities. ”Feyenoord is of course a good team, last season they won the championship for a reason. They are fit, tactically very flexible. And they still have that team, although they are still logically looking for the base eleven due to some changes. That offers us an opportunity, if they are not yet quite sure how they really want to do it.”

Probable Sparta line-up
olive oil; Bakari, Vriends, Velthuis, Warmerdam; Kitolano, Clement, Verschueren; Van Crooij, Lauritsen, Saito.
