Luka Doncic’s Injury Scare: Slovenian Point Guard’s Knee Declared Healthy

It’s easy to imagine Mark Cuban, Jason Kidd and the entire Dallas Mavericks throwing their hands up after seeing Luka Doncic go down injured in a friendly with Slovenia. But there’s nothing to worry about, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the point guard’s right knee is healthy.

Doncic left the court with two minutes remaining in the second quarter. In a defensive play he had a knee clash with Emmanouil Chatzidakis, immediately, he stopped supporting his right leg and was sore. Until then he had accumulated 18 points in 13 minutes with an assist and a steal. In the end, Slovenia lost 88-77 to Greece without Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“No concern,” a source told MacMahon about the Slovenian’s mishap. He also added that his departure was only a precaution.

It’s a special summer for Doncic with his country’s national team, since he will play the role of captain for the first time at the World Cup. In the previous friendly game he excelled with a triple double of 20 points, 14 touchdown passes and 10 rebounds, although he ended up defeated against Lithuania.

Cancar is also injured

Not only in Dallas the alarms sounded, but also in Denver for Vlatko Cancar. After a dunk, the Slovenian power forward fell onto his left leg and quickly touched his noticeably sore knee.

“The only thing I can talk about is the MRI. From what I understand, initial tests were positive. So we’ll see. We are all hopeful because he is a very important piece for this team,” his teammate Jordan Morgan told the media.

Cancar comes from finishing his fourth season with the Nuggets, current NBA champions. In 60 games of the regular season he posted 5.0 points and 2.1 rebounds in nearly 15 minutes a night.

For its part, Slovenia is located in group F of the World Cup along with Venezuela, Georgia and Cape Verde. His debut is scheduled for August 26 against the Caribbean.
