Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Tony Gonsolin Placed on Injured List with Right Forearm Inflammation

Last night, the Los Angeles Dodgers saw their winning streak end when they were beaten by the Miami Marlins as pitcher Tony Gonsolin allowed 10 runs and five home runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Now, the Los Angeles team will have to deal with his absence. Before the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Dodgers announced that the right-handed pitcher had been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm inflammation.

Dave Roberts, manager of the Californian organization, stated that he expects the recovery to take longer than expected for the pitcher and that it is likely that he will not pitch again for the team in the 2023 season.

“I think all pitchers have something with their arms and elbows, it’s mileage,” Roberts said. “We’re aligned to the extent that it made sense to us for him to keep pitching, but right now we feel like the disabled list is the best thing for him.”

Gonsolin made 20 starts for the Dodgers and went 8-5 with a 4.98 ERA. The 29-year-old pitched 103 complete innings, allowing 57 earned runs and striking out 82 of the opposing batters he faced.

Who will replace Tony Gonsolin in the Dodgers’ rotation?

By placing Gonsolin on the disabled list, the Dodgers raised left-handed pitcher Bryan Hudson from the Triple-A branch. This year he has made three major league appearances and has allowed five runs on one home run in 5 2/3 innings. Therefore, his ERA is 7.94.

Despite the addition of Hudson, the Dodgers manager will also consider Ryan Pepiot, Gavin Stone and Ryan Yarbrough as possible starters.
