Laura Siegemund progresses to second qualifying round at US Open after victory over Nuria Brancaccio

Laura Siegemund is in the second qualifying round at the US Open after beating Nuria Brancaccio 61-1, 6-4.

Laura Siegemund took the first hurdle in qualifying in New York.

Siegemund got off to a fabulous start in the match and secured the first set 6:1. The 23-year-old Italian never got a chance to set foot in the match. Siegemund played too clarified.

In the second set, the German quickly managed to break, but it was more balanced. The Italian allowed more breakballs, but she was always able to fend them off in a concentrated manner. But Siegemund now showed the first weaknesses, which were promptly used by her opponent. 4:4 it was suddenly said in a match that Siegemund seemed to have already won for many viewers.

But the experienced German was undeterred and immediately took control of the game again. After 1:29 hours, the 35-year-old was able to secure entry into the second qualifying round in New York. There Siegemund meets the winner of the game Simona Waltert against Mona Bathel.
