Latvian Basketball Team Victorious in Opening World Cup Match Despite Injured Player

The Latvian basketball team defeated the Lebanese national team with a score of 109:70 (27:17, 28:13, 27:18, 27:22) in the opening round of the World Cup.

Andrzej Pasečnik, who also spent a limited amount of time on the field in test matches, spent less than seven minutes on the floor in this match, spending most of the game on a wheel trainer.

Banki confirmed at the press conference that the Latvian basketball player is struggling with an injury that will bother him throughout the tournament.

“Andrzej is struggling with a long-term problem. But everything is fine. I think he already showed in the test matches that he is on the road to recovery. It was my decision to leave him at the end of the rotation. The skills of the opponents, let’s say, their versatility and height were also taken into account the shorter players. I wanted to use him at the very end of the game because such problems require movement. Rest alone will not help. Unfortunately, this is a problem that he will have to live with throughout the tournament,” said the coach.

Pasečnik was able to collect 10 points and four rebounds in the minutes allotted to him.
