Laimer scores against Hütter-Elf Monaco in Bayern test

Konrad Laimer scored the 1-1 goal for his new club FC Bayern Munich in the final friendly before the Supercup duel with RB Leipzig on Monday. After a one-two with Jamal Musiala, he scored in the 32nd minute against AS Monaco, who had previously taken the lead through Minamino (29′).

The German champions ultimately won 4:2 (3:1). In addition to Laimer, Musiala (42′), Serge Gnabry (45′ + 2′) and substitute Leroy Sane (68′) scored. For Monaco’s neo-coach Adi Hütter, who himself had previously been a coach in the German Bundesliga, saw a goal from his captain Wissam Ben Yedder (63./foulelfmeter) in addition to Minamino’s goal.

Only spectators were striker Thomas Müller (hip problems) and Joshua Kimmich. According to Bayern, the head of midfield was rested “due to load control”. Instead of Kimmich, Germany international Leon Goretzka captained the Bayern team. The 28-year-old, who had only been second choice in all previous friendlies at Tuchel, played in defensive midfield with newcomer Laimer.

New comeback delayed

Shortly before the start of the season, however, Bayern are without a clear number one in goal. While goalkeeper Yann Sommer is leaving Munich again after around seven months and, as expected, joins the Italian first division club Inter Milan, Manuel Neuer had to undergo another medical procedure.

The German team goalie had a piece of metal removed from his right fibula on Sunday. According to the club, the operation had been planned. Neuer immediately continued his advanced training. When the 37-year-old can be back on the pitch remains unclear. Neuer has not played a game since breaking his lower leg in December. Until a successor is found and Neuer is ready for action, Sven Ulreich will have to help out as temporary number one.
