(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Cho Hyeon-gi = The Korea Unemployment Badminton Federation, which tried to make it mandatory for female players to wear sleeveless tops and skirts, deleted the related regulations in the investigation of the National Human Rights Commission.
The Human Rights Commission announced on the 3rd that the federation voluntarily deleted the regulations during the investigation after receiving a complaint that it was discriminatory to have female players wear skirts at the competition, and the complaint was ‘resolved during investigation’.
According to the Human Rights Commission, while holding the A competition, the federation stated in the participation guideline that ‘female players must wear skirts’.
Originally, there was no regulation for female players to wear sleeveless tops and skirts, but it was reported that a new regulation was established when the competition was broadcast on TV.
When the Human Rights Commission entered into an investigation, the federation judged that the dress code was inappropriate in that it targeted women’s bodies, and deleted the rules for wearing sleeveless tops and skirts.
The Human Rights Commission said, “We welcome the federation’s voluntarily correcting discriminatory practices,” and “will pay attention and make efforts so that all competitions are oriented toward gender equality and operated in a human rights-friendly manner.”
