Jurij Rodionov’s US Open Dreams Shattered in Qualification

Jurij Rodionov loses the fight for a ticket for the main competition of the US Open right at the start of the qualification.

The seventh-placed Lower Austrian loses in the first round against the American Patrick Kypson 4: 6, 4: 6, the dream of participating in the US Open for the first time has burst for the time being.

Rodionov conceded a break right at the start and later a second one to make it 1:4. The rebreak to 2: 4 is no longer enough to break the first set.

In the second round, Austria’s number three seems to turn the tables, is in the lead 4-2, but then has to give up four games in a row.

Novak Mammutaufgabe

From Wednesday, three more Austrian men and one red-white-red woman will be active in qualifying.

Sinja Kraus meets the French Alice Robbe. Filip Misolic faces Estonian Mark Lajal, Dennis Novak has a difficult task ahead of him with Belgian David Goffin (No. 5).

If Maximilian Neuchrist wins against the German Maximilian Marterer (24), he would meet Rodionov’s conqueror.

Ofner’s Winston-Salem race

Sebastian Ofner got off to a good start after a first-round bye against 18-year-old US wildcard player Alex Michelsen.

Ultimately, he can’t benefit from this either, losing 6:7(4),5:7.

In the first set, the Styrian was not lucky in the tie-break, he then lost the second round 5:7 after a changeable performance. For Ofner it will continue in the coming week like Julia Grabher at the Grand Slam tournament in New York.
