Jurgen Klopp excited after Liverpool’s win over Newcastle United

After Liverpool’s successful comeback against Newcastle United with a man down, Jürgen Klopp was very impressed. “In my more than 1000 games as a coach, I’ve never seen a game like this,” said the former coach of Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund and FSV Mainz 05: “That’s the truth. With ten men in such an atmosphere against such an opponent – I’m pretty sure that hasn’t happened before.”

Newcastle’s striker Anthony Gordon initially gave the hosts the lead in Liverpool’s 2-1 win in the Premier League on Sunday (25th minute). Three minutes later, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk saw the red card after an emergency brake. Substitute Darwin Núñez (81st and 90th + 3) ensured a successful comeback for the Reds, who were outnumbered.

Manchester City tops the table with Haaland

“These moments are rare and super special,” said Klopp: “I think the boys deserve it. We played better with ten men. It was obviously wild.” The coach thought the red card against his captain van Dijk was exaggerated, “but what can I say? That’s the way the decision was made and I can’t change it.” Liverpool are unbeaten after three league games and have seven points.

Meanwhile, Manchester City took the lead in England’s highest football league. In the game against newly promoted Sheffield United, Erling Haaland first missed a penalty but then scored, contributing to the English champions’ perfect start to the season. In the 2-1 (0-0), the third win in the third Premier League game, the Norwegian made it 1-0 for Manchester. Haaland converted a cross from Jack Grealish (63′) after putting a hand penalty against the post before the break (36′). After Jayden Bogle equalized (85′), Rodri (88′) decided the game.

Manchester United won 3-2 (1-2) against Nottingham Forest after trailing 2-0. Second in the table after the 3-1 (1-0) win against Brighton & Hove Albion is surprisingly West Ham United with national player Thilo Kehrer.
