John Isner Bids Farewell to Tennis Career with Emotional Marathon Match

John Isner’s tennis career came to an end with a marathon match.

The 2.08 m tall service giant from the USA lost to Michael Mmoh after 4:01 hours and then said goodbye to his fans in tears.

“It’s tough. I’ve worked so hard all my life to play in an atmosphere like that. You can’t always win, like today, but playing in front of this crowd and having the support I’ve had is something very special,” said a visibly moved Isner.

For the 38-year-old, it was the last appearance in his 17-year professional career.

Isner made history at Wimbledon in 2010 when he won by far the longest match in tennis history against Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
