Jan Vodháněl’s Stellar Summer Training Leads to Success in the League

Sigma Olomouc offensive midfielder Jan Vodháněl had a good summer training. He got into form, which he also confirms in the league. He also scored his first goal of the season in Slovácko.

“It confirms what I talked about in the pre-season press conference. He was one of our most dangerous players in all three games. I expected it to belong to the powerhouses with its quality and numbers. He has the prerequisites for this and this time he fulfilled them with a goal. But his limits are even higher than he showed,” coach Václav Jílek praised Jana Vodháněla.

The twenty-six-year-old footballer was able to enter the statistics already in the last match against Karviná. But then he did not convert his chance and his three great passes were blocked by teammate Jan Navrátil.

“We were talking about the fact that he owes me bonuses, but I believe that he will succeed next time,” laughed Jan Vodháněl.

He himself took advantage of a moment after the break when Slovácko’s defense hesitated. “I saw that the goalkeeper Heča was backing up a little outside the goal. It was the easiest option for me to attack it on the back, when I had it on a stronger left hand,” he described an important moment. He probably decided the match with a goal of 2:0.

Sigma broke the curse. She won in Slovakia after eleven years

For Vodháněl, it was the first ever goal in the top competition on the opponent’s field. So far, he has always given nine in front of his fans. “This is new information for me. But I’m glad I’m not waiting for a shot until the tenth round,” he said.

At the same time, Sigma did not perform at its best in the first half. Slovácko was better and even Jan Vodháněl didn’t change it much. “They climbed on top of us. We couldn’t play from the back on the ground. When we kicked, we didn’t collect rebounds and we weren’t dangerous at all. At least we scored a goal thanks to the situation when the stoppers collided,” he described.

“I guess no one would be surprised if we lost at halftime. Slovakia pushed us with a simple game that they practice against every opponent at home. Their full-backs are very high and roll one cross after another into the goal. We were ready for it, but it’s not a pleasant game,” he continued.

After the change of sides, Hanáci got more into the game. “But there was no wind in the cabin. We felt ourselves that it was not good. Paradoxically, we managed it successfully and didn’t want to completely panic and throw everything in the trash. The second goal calmed us down,” assessed Vodháněl.

Now they await Sigma Teplice and Vodháněl would like to confirm his good form against them as well.
