Players of Ina Junior High School women’s basketball club aiming to enter the top 4 for the first time in the prefecture
Ina City Ina Junior High School Women’s Basketball Club will participate in the 53rd National Junior High School Basketball Tournament (21-24, Kagawa Prefecture) as a representative of Hokushinetsu. The team has qualified for the national tournament for the second year in a row. A 14-year-old third-year student who is the captain of the team is enthusiastic, saying, “I want to win each game carefully without getting carried away by participating in the national tournament.”
The club won the Hokushinetsu Tournament (1st and 2nd, Ishikawa Prefecture) where the top two schools advance to the national tournament. The team consisted mainly of third-year students who had experienced last year’s tournament, and advanced to the prefectural and Hokushinetsu tournaments in a safe manner.
The height of the main members is around 160 cm. Although it is a small team at the national level, it challenges the strong players nationwide with its characteristic “fast attack from fierce defense”. First of all, we aim to break through the qualifying league that was defeated last year.
Advisor Takuya Inoue pointed out, “Unlike last year, we can face the tournament knowing exactly who is strong.” At the national tournament, I expect results that surpass the top eight results that the club established 28 years ago. Captain Nohara said, “I want to make this a tournament where everyone on the team can see the fighting spirit of absolutely winning.” The other core members are also enthusiastic, saying, “I will make shots when I’m in trouble and play calmly so that I can win” and “I will do my best to surpass last year’s results and stand on the main court.”
