Guide to Securing First Access to Tickets for the 2023 IIHF World Championship

How to get to the packages first?

The official sale starts on October 10, 2023 at 10 am. Even before this date, approximately 20 percent of the tickets will go on sale as a matter of priority, and the lucky winners of the “lottery” will go on sale. You can register for it until September 15, while the organizers are already registering 60,000 interested parties. From September 18 to 24 a draw will take place for winners who will be able to purchase up to six day packages from October 2 to 4. Unused ticket capacities will then be offered to all registered users from October 6 to 8, i.e. before the official sales start.

What is the key date for the sale?

To be sure, we will repeat – October 10, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Where will the tickets be available?

Either through the official website 2024.iihfworlds.com/tickets or through the websites of individual sales operators. Here’s a note: the matches of the regular season in Prague and Ostrava and the two Ostrava quarterfinals will be offered by Ticketportal. Tickets for the play-off in Prague and VIP tickets for all matches will then be available from Ticketmaster. “Everyone who organizes an event in the Prague arena is obliged to sell tickets to two contracted ticket operators. After several meetings, we came to the conclusion that this solution would be the most transparent for the overall sales setup and especially for the orientation of the fans under the given situation,” explains Petr Bříza, head of the Prague organizing committee.

How many tickets can one person purchase?

Up to eight daily packages per purchase.

Will the sales system fail again?

Organizers believe not. And that the “calamity” like before the World Cup 2015 will not happen again. “We have guarantees from both sales operators that the situation should not happen again. They have bought new hardware, they are better prepared,” said Martin Gremlica, head of ticketing for the championship. However, the serious threat of collapse is here.

When do tickets for individual matches go on sale?

According to the official website of the tournament, not until January 2024. However, it can be expected that the matches when the Czechs and Slovaks play in Ostrava will be sold out already in the first phase of the tournament. On the other hand, everyone who buys a day package gets two tickets – for example to the Czech Republic – Finland and Switzerland – Norway. The exception is the so-called family game – the organizers have selected five matches, which are played from 12:20 p.m., for which solo tickets will be available on October 10. For example, the duel between Canada and Great Britain (Prague) will cost only three hundreds in II. category.

When and where do the Czechs play the playoffs?

The possible quarter-finals will be played at the O2 Arena on Thursday 23 May from 20:20, the semi-finals will be played at the same venue two days later from 14:20.

Which days are the cheapest and which are the most expensive?

Tuesday, May 14, when Denmark – Norway and Canada – Austria play in Prague, and Monday, May 20, when Britain meets Norway and Denmark meets Finland, the most expensive daily packages cost 2,280 crowns. On the other hand, on Tuesday, May 21, when the Czech Republic – Canada and Finland – Switzerland duels are scheduled, the package for category I costs 4,880 crowns.

The quarter-finals in Prague cost less than seven thousand (I. category), the semi-finals for 12 and the final for 13 thousand (always I. category). “Compared to 2015, the tickets for the quarter-finals went up by only a few hundred crowns. Despite the increase in costs, we decided to keep the semi-finals at the same price as in 2015, and the fans will pay even less for the matches for gold and bronze than at the last Czech championship,” says Petr Bříza.
