“Good morning, I came to buy Santi Cazorla’s shirt”

“Good morning, I came to buy Santi Cazorla’s shirt.” The phrase, say the employees of the official Real Oviedo store, is repeated insistently all morning. “Even yesterday – on Wednesday – people already came to ask for the shirt,” says Rebeca Díaz, from the other side of the counter. “AND this morning when we opened at 10 there was a line of people waiting“, he adds. There is only one problem: at the moment, the Oviedista idol’s shirt is not being printed. Not until the number and name that he will wear on the back are official. “Are you going to wear ‘S. Cazorla’, ‘Santi Cazorla’ or just ‘Cazorla’?” ask the followers in the store. And the employees shrug their shoulders.

A little cheat doesn’t work either. In the store they offer you to print the official numbers or make the composition yourself, with your name and the number of your choice. But if someone asks for the printing of, for example, the 8 with “S. Cazorla”, the store does not do it. At least for now.

“Starting next week we hope to have Cazorla’s shirts so we can sell them.” Gently indicates Rebeca Díaz and her colleagues to clients. Díaz points out that she “had never seen anything like it. Since yesterday – on Wednesday – people began to arrive asking about Cazorla’s uniform. And now, more of the same.”

But the reading of the employee goes further: “The pace we have this season is the highest I can remember. For example, the women’s kits have already sold out. But more will arrive soon.”

One of those who goes to the store with a clear objective is Cayetana León, just on the day she celebrates her tenth birthday. On her wish list for him she ticks an obvious one. “I have come to buy the Cazorla shirt,” she says proudly. She is accompanied by María José Nava, Esperanza Fernández and Verónica León. “We have explained to her who Cazorla is because she has barely seen him play so young and she has not doubted it,” says María José Nava. Cayetana, like so many others, has to wait. The shirt is bought on the go, but the printing will be next week. It is the option that the majority welcomes: tie the garment and return when the stamp of the new idol can be printed on it.

It is the same script that follows, for example, Mariano Navarro. “Yesterday I was at the Trade Fair when I saw the news of the signing. I couldn’t believe it, what a joy. And I said ‘tomorrow I’m going to buy Cazorla’s shirt’. And here I am. It’s the most exciting signing I can remember,” he says, wearing the second jacket, the rose.

Now, all that remains is to shape the identity on the shirt. And see the idol step on the Carlos Tartiere, of course.
