Franco Morbidelli Wants to Stay in MotoGP, Feels Experienced and Still Relatively Young

Bola.net – After officially being kicked out of Monster Energy Yamaha at the end of the season, Franco Morbidelli said he was determined to stay in MotoGP in 2024. After six years of competing in the class of kings, he feels experienced, and feels he is still quite young because he is 28 years old.

Morbidelli was runner up in MotoGP 2020 with Petronas Yamaha SRT. However, it has been difficult to appear competitive since he was suddenly asked to move to the factory team as a replacement for Maverick Vinales in mid-2021. It is for this reason that Yamaha has chosen not to extend his contract.

“Right now I’m in an uncomfortable position because I don’t have a seat for next season. However, this is extra motivation for the second half of the season. Staying in MotoGP is my target. I feel strong and experienced. I’m 28, still relatively young,” he said via Crash.net, Thursday (3/8/2023).

Currently, Morbidelli and VR46 Management are trying to find a place in 2024. The Brazilian-blooded Italian rider has also been linked with Mooney VR46 Racing and Gresini Racing. He is sure that his status as world champion in Moto2 2017 and runner up in MotoGP 2020 can still be counted on.

“I have an extraordinary feeling in this category, having fought for a world title without realizing it. I also want to feel it again. I’m sure the VR46 management will help me rise,” said Valentino Rossi’s first protege at the VR46 Riders Academy.

On the other hand, Morbidelli emphasized that he and Yamaha parted ways on good terms. Although he will no longer be working together next season, he has a very good personal relationship with the bosses and members of the Monster Energy Yamaha team.

“I met a lot of good people, I have a good relationship with the people in our team and I will keep in touch with them even though we are technically separated. I will try my best as usual,” said Morbidelli.

“I get concerned looks from a lot of people, and that actually makes me sad. However, that’s okay. This is our world. It’s obvious, the fact that I am now ‘free agent’ motivation,” he concluded.

Ahead of the British MotoGP at the Silverstone Circuit on 4-6 August 2023, Morbidelli sits in 11th place in the drivers’ standings with a collection of 57 points, only 7 points behind Fabio Quartararo who is in 9th place.
