Framber Valdez Throws No-Hitter in Astros’ Victory against the Cleveland Guardians

Framber Valdez had a pretty exceptional no-hitter for the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, needing just 93 shots to accomplish the feat against the Cleveland Guardians at Minute Maid Park.

The Dominican is the first left-hander in team history to achieve this feat, after 15 right-handers. No gunner has needed fewer shots than him since David Cone in 1999, when the New York Yankees veteran recorded a perfect game of 88 shots against the Montreal Expos.

Valdez also came very close to a perfect game, since he only gave up one walk. Oscar Gonzalez is the only man to hit the trails for Cleveland, after a full count in the fifth inning.

The Astros (61-47) won 2-0 thanks to Kyle Tucker’s paying single late in the third. The outfielder’s centerfield arrow allowed Jose Altuve and Jeremy Pena to cross the plate.

It’s Valdez’s sixth full game (9-7) in his career, as he is in his sixth season with the Astros.

This season, Domingo German of the Yankees had a perfect game on June 28. On July 8, Detroit Tigers pitchers Matt Manning, Jason Foley and Alex Lange teamed up for a game without a run or a combined hit.
