Formula 1: Australian Ricciardo crashed | Netherlands Grand Prix

Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo suffered a fractured left wrist this Friday in practice for the Formula 1 Netherlands Grand Prix and his place in the AlphaTauri team will be taken by New Zealander Liam Lawson, Red Bull Racing junior driver and, of course, from the Italian AlphaTauri.

Ricciardo crashed ten minutes into second practice at the Zandvoort circuit when he crashed into the tire guard at turn 3, the official Formula 1 website confirmed.

At the time, the driver contacted his team by radio, and told them that he felt pain in his left wrist and then he went to a hospital for tests, which later confirmed the fracture.

Lawson, a 21-year-old driver of the Japanese Super Formula in the current season and ex-Formula 2 last year, will have his absolute debut in the premier division of world motorsports.

Ricciardo had returned to Formula 1 by taking the place of Dutchman Nyck de Vries in AlphaTauri at the Hungarian Grand Prix after having been Red Bull’s reserve driver this year following his departure from McLaren late last season.

So far this season, AlphaTauri has not passed tenth position, achieved three times by the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda, who has three points in the standings. Consequently, the Italian team is last in the Constructors’ World Championship.

This Saturday the classification of the Dutch GP will be defined, to which Max Verstappen arrives as a great favorite to be crowned for the third time in a row in his homeland, where Juan Manuel Fangio also knew how to win, in 1955 with Mercedes.

With 12 dates completed out of the 22 on the calendar, Verstappen is the absolute leader of the 2023 World Cup with 314 points, followed by the Mexican Sergio “Checo” Pérez (189; Red Bull), the Spanish Fernando Alonso (149; Aston Martin) and the Englishman Lewis Hamilton (148; Mercedes).
