Former American catcher Nate Irving is the new hitting coach of the Braves de Margarita, ahead of the 2023-2024 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. After Julio Morillo, originally announced for the position, reported that he will not be able to perform functions, because he must attend to personal matters.
“For me, the opportunity to be a part of the Braves organization this season means a lot. I am very excited to experience the Venezuelan ball culture at its best. I know the league quite well, since I have many friends and teammates who have participated in it,” said the new instructor of the insulares, who works as the hitting coach of the Cincinnati Reds branch, in the Arizona Complex League.
For his part, the general manager of the Margariteños, Yves Hernández, explained that, “in addition to hitting, which is fundamental, Irving has a great mastery of statistical work, in fact, he was a bullpen receiver for Cincinnati, while providing support hitters and catchers in the data analysis, so their input will be very valuable.”
Nate Irving had experience as a player in college baseball, he was also drafted by the Arizona Rattlesnake organization with whom he played in the minor league system, he also saw action in independent leagues, prior to starting what has been a fruitful career as an instructor.
In addition to his experience as a bullpen catcher in the Majors with the Reds, he was the hitting coach for their AA branch in Chattanooga. “Our manager José Moreno and I had the pleasure of working together there. We are excited to try to bring a dynamic offensive style to Margarita. We will prepare ourselves as best we can to put our players in the best situation, to perform at a winning level”, he enthused.
Regarding his contribution to the island cause, he made it clear that “we exist as coaches to support our players in everything they need. My goal is to give them all the tools and resources they need to have a championship season.”
Irving assured that he knows some of the brave players, “both from my playing career and as a coach. I am looking forward to meeting each one of them individually, in our search for a championship”, declared the new instructor of Bravos de Margarita.
