“Fifa and UEFA work for power, not for football”

The championships have started, but the transfer market isn’t over yet. On the contrary. There are those who play, pass and score and maybe change their shirt the next day. The fan complains. It’s not serious. But then we come to the consequence: “It’s the fault of the prosecutors, the evil of football, the only ones who get rich in this whole circus”. Giovanni Branchini, the man who brought Ronaldo il Phenomenon to Moratti’s Inter, now honorary president of theAssoagent in charge of foreign affairs, he doesn’t fit in and gives a voice to his category by explaining what many people cannot objectively know.

Branchini, do you feel your backs against the wall?

«In times like this there are crusades against our category, used inappropriately to justify rough situations that arise in the world of football. The truth is that 90% of us have nothing to do with football distortions. Starting with this lack of rules on the market that is practically always open. Anyone who thinks that we need prosecutors to get rich, on the shoulders of clubs and players, is wrong. We are the first to ask for a shorter transfer market and especially not when playing. Those who vehemently support this are precisely the presidents, who think that more time gives greater chances of rewarding negotiations. The longer they stay open, the more they can do and the better it is for them. Not for us. But in reality it is not even for them because all this time means that decisions are often made in a confused way precisely because of the amount of time available. Once upon a time there was less time, it was necessary to prepare better and be ready with clear ideas and objectives».

When you talk about football presidents and top management, do you mean Fifa, Uefa and the various federations, leagues and club owners going down the hierarchy?

“No, I really mean the clubs. The responsibilities of Fifa and UEFA lie in never confronting the club presidents on these issues, subjecting them to their decisions and wishes. I’ve also tried to put the components around a table to find solutions or compromises, but it doesn’t seem to be possible because I don’t see any real will. The flow of money is not determined by the prosecutors. If a value suddenly went from 30 billion lire to 300 million euro, it’s certainly not our fault. Just as it is impossible for our category to prevent salaries from undergoing increases in the light of these assessments. Then it is obvious that we have to serve the interests of our assistants and therefore we try to bring them to where there are the best technical and economic conditions”….
