Exploring the Biodiversity of Ponds: Eau & Rivières de Bretagne’s Festival

Every year Eau & Rivières de Bretagne highlights an environment or a species to make our natural areas and their riches better known. This year, it is the pond and its inhabitants who will be at the heart of our actions around biodiversity. For this festival we will mix discovery of the pond and discovery of nature sports in order to raise awareness among the general public.

Why the sea?

For ages, the pond has been a characteristic landscape element of our region. From the Neolithic to the mid-twentieth century, multiple water points were created for as many diverse functions (druidic worship, basketry, bread making, forge, flax cultivation, cider brewing, animal watering, fishing, Fight against fires…). But little by little the pond lost its appeal.

It contributes significantly to the biodiversity of our countryside. Many species, including amphibians, depend on these habitats. It also plays an important hydrological role at the scale of micro watersheds…
