Hoogland about Lavreysen: ‘I don’t think it’s necessary to talk to him’

According to Jeffrey Hoogland, it is ‘every man for himself’ in the Dutch track sprint team, which cannot exactly be labeled as a unity a year before the Olympic Games.

The world champion in the 1 kilometer time trial, among other things, criticized Harrie Lavreysen in the AD, who was accompanied by Hugo Haak at the World Cup in Glasgow. He left as national coach at the end of 2021 because he was ready for a new challenge.

In Scotland, Hoogland added the following after the keirin final, in which Lavreysen finished fourth and Hoogland sixth. “I think the competition takes the upper hand. Then individual interests come to the fore. Also logical. I don’t worry about it.”

Lavreysen responds to Hoogland criticism: ‘It surprised me a bit’

A reaction from Lavreysen, five-time world champion in the sprint, was inevitable. “I also read the articles. Jeffrey’s criticism surprised me a bit. No idea where it came from. I think it’s important that it is spoken out and I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t.”

Hoogland, who is assisted by national coach Mehdi Kordi, does not seem to be waiting for that. “I ignored Harrie today, kept the focus on myself. That worked very well. I don’t think it’s necessary to talk to him. I’m going my own way, I’ll be fine, with Mehdi by my side.”

Lavreysen in turn hopes to continue the collaboration with Haak. “I asked Hugo to guide me this World Cup. As far as I’m concerned, he will continue to do so in the future.”
