Tennis professional Dominik Koepfer has advanced to the second round of the ATP tournament in Winston-Salem.
At the dress rehearsal for the US Open next week in New York, the 29-year-old defeated the Frenchman Constant Lestienne 6: 4, 3: 6 7: 6 (10: 8) and fended off two match balls from his opponent.
Strong Kirchheimer (USA), who benefited from the short-term withdrawal of Kempen’s Daniel Altmaier, is now waiting in the duel for the round of 16.
Koepfer, who was only eliminated in the semifinals two weeks ago in Los Cabos, Mexico, used his second match point to win after 2:34 hours of play.
The two had previously met twice in the Challenger Tour, where Koepfer had lost each time.
