This Monday begins the ATP tournament in Washington with the first round which will be played between the American Mackensie McDonald, who will therefore play at home, and the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, 30 years old. After a well-deserved break after playing Wimbledon, Diego Schwartzman seemed to need a breather in order to calmly resume the ATP circuit. Having not won a title for 2 years now, Schwartzman is slightly on the decline and does not find his top level he had in 2020 (9th in the world). Nevertheless, on hard court, he shows very good results and that’s why nothing is decided yet in this match. Indeed, there is a success rate of 60% over the last 20 games played on this surface, while Mackensie McDonald has won only 7 small games out of the 20 played recently. In addition, against the Argentinian, the American has always been beaten: a first defeat in 2022 during the Barcelona ATP (6-2, 6-2) in the 1/16 finals, then very recently during the Queen’s ATP in London also in the 1/16 final (6-2, 6-4). It is possible to see the Argentinian dominate this meeting, against an opponent he knows well.
