The 2023/24 DFB Cup season has begun. But what happens next? SPOX gives you all the information about the 2nd round including the date, date, draw and the broadcast on TV and live stream.
The first cup games of the new season are only just underway, but in this article we want to go a step further and deal with the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
A total of 64 teams take part in the national cup competition every year. From the 32 games of the first round, 32 winners emerge, who in turn advance to the second round. But who meets whom? As always, the lot decides.
In this article you will find out when the games of the 2nd round will be drawn, when the 16 games will take place and where they can be seen on TV and livestream.

DFB Cup 2023, 2nd round: date, dates
As in the past, the games in the second round of the cup will be played over two consecutive days. This year, the DFB, responsible for organizing the competition, has opted for the following:
Matchday 1: October 31, 2023 Matchday 2: November 01, 2023
If everything goes as it did in 2022, then eight games will take place on both days.
DFB Cup 2023, 2nd round: draw
It is currently still unclear when the draw for the second round of the DFB Cup will take place. However, it can be assumed that the event will only be held after all games of the first round have been completed. Last year, the broadcaster ARD held the draw on Sunday after the last first-round match.
If you follow this logic again this year, then the drawing would take place on October 1st. The last game of the first round will be played by second division promoted Wehen Wiesbaden and RB Leipzig on September 27th. But why is this game – unlike almost all other first-round cup games – so late in the year? The answer is here.

DFB Cup 2023, 2nd round: Broadcast on TV and live stream
The transmission of the 2nd round of the cup will again largely come from the pay-TV channel Sky. The company has secured the rights to all DFB Cup games this season. For access on TV, a Sky sports package needed. If you want to be part of the live stream, you can do so on the platforms SkyGo and Wow (formerly SkyTicket) the possibility.
But watch out: not all games remain hidden behind the payment barrier. As part of a sub-license agreement, the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF have secured the broadcasting rights to a total of 15 cup duels this season. In the first round they make use of a total of four, which leaves an extensive contingent of eleven games. Which games will ultimately be shown on free TV and free live streams will probably only be decided by the broadcasters after the draw.
