Caroline Wozniacki’s Remarkable Comeback: Winning First Match in Three and a Half Years

What a comeback from Caroline Wozniacki! The former number 1 in the world tennis rankings had actually declared her career over in winter 2020 – but in June 2023 the surprising role followed backwards.

The Dane announced that she wanted to start a comeback and now the time had come.

At the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, Wozniacki hit Australian Kimberly Birrell in the first round – and with success. The 33-year-old won the game in two sets 6: 2, 6: 2 and is in the next round.

The fact that the 2018 Australian Open winner dared to return to the tennis tour after a break of almost three and a half years and as a mother of two is mainly due to two role models: Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters.

The two top players had returned to the tour as mothers in the past, an inspiration for Wozniacki.

“I think it was fantastic to see them coming back. It’s definitely a motivation for a mother, because then I think: Okay, if they can do it, so can I,” said the Dane in a recent interview with the Berlingske newspaper.

With the win against Birrell, she has already successfully taken the first step back.
