Hans Kraay Jr. sees that Branco van den Boomen started a little too zealous at Ajax. On Thursday, the midfielder was on the bench against Ludogorets.

The Dutchman, who came over from Toulouse, had to make do with a raid in Bulgaria. “Steijn probably had the same as many football analysts. He can play his first ball forward very well, but he can also exaggerate it,” says Kraay at ESPN. “Actually, he sometimes wants to forcefully play every ball forward, there were also a few very bad balls in between.”

The analyst believes that Van den Boomen’s long ball can be an incredible weapon, provided the balls are given well. “As a winger you know that you can go when he has the ball. That is very refreshing,” explains Kraay. “He just overdoes it every now and then.”

“Trainers want the ball in the team, so I think Steijn has opted for security for a while. If he has a good variety, Van den Boomen can just play in Ajax’s midfield,” he concludes.
