Belgrano Beats Claypole 1-0 in Round of 16 of Argentine Cup

Belgrano, who had gone six games without scoring a goal in the Professional League, beat Claypole, from the First C, 1-0, in a match valid for the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup.

The match was played at the Eva Perón stadium in the Buenos Aires city of Junín and was refereed by Julio Barraza. There were about five thousand people from Pirata cheering on the team.

The only goal of the night was scored by Daniel Barrea, 42 minutes into the first half. Belgrano was making the merits to have that advantage. And also, the striker was in charge of replacing Pablo Vegetti, the benchmark and captain who went to Vasco da Gama.

The sky-blue team had three debuts in the first team: defender Mariano Trolio, 20, and midfielder Nicolás Brito, 20 years old. The third debut was for Franco Rami, another 20-year-old midfielder, son of Cristian Ramiformer striker for Talleres and Racing de Nueva Italia.

The striker Pablo Chavarría, one of the reinforcements for the second part of 2023, also entered in the second half. The 35-year-old striker from Córdoba had left the club 13 years ago.

Belgrano had settled in the round of 16 after having eliminated Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza in the previous round. Claypole, for his part, had just given one of the big “hits” of the previous round by eliminating Newell’s Old Boys.

The winner of the match will play in the round of 16 against San Lorenzo, which last week eliminated Platense on the Lanús field in a series that was defined by penalties. There is no confirmed date for this match.
