In North America, the baseball world is in turmoil following the suspension of a star commentator… for speaking the truth on the air.
Baltimore Orioles game descriptor Kevin Brown was sanctioned by the Maryland team after commentating on a live graphic on July 23. The problem? He only stated proven facts.
When analyzing the Orioles’ problems at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, Brown said, “The Orioles have won three of their five games at Trop this season, compared to just three wins in 21 games between 2020 and 2022.”
Protests Galore
Seemingly innocuous, this statement had consequences that went beyond comprehension. That is to say the setting aside of the messenger.
According to “The Athletic”, the Baltimore team blames Brown for making comments that suggest the team is “cheap”.
The news caused a tidal wave on social media, where fans and sports commentators voiced their support for Kevin Brown.
Faced with these protests, the Orioles issued a statement in several outlets, including the “Baltimore Banner”, stating that Brown would return to his position “in the near future”.
The intention did not calm the crowd, which protested with “freedom for Kevin Brown” during the Orioles game against Houston (6-7) which was played overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
