Science does not go on holiday to the “Livio Gratton” astronomical park in Rocca di Papa (RM). After the exciting and well-attended Astroincontri in July, the science appointments continue at the Astronomical Park in August. As many as five events, scheduled on Friday and Saturday evenings of the month, will allow the public of adults and children to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of astronomy, to get to know the wonders of the sky and to observe them with the naked eye and telescopes.

if part Friday 4th August With the’Astromeeting “Stars at the Planetarium” dedicated to the discovery of all the wonders of the sky of the period. Under the 7-metre diameter dome of the fixed planetarium – a formidable sky simulation tool – ATA expert Salvatore Almaviva will illustrate the August sky to the public of adults and children, with the help of spectacular astronomical photos and videos immersive. During the show, of great emotional impact, science and the story of myths related to celestial objects will merge together to give the audience an unforgettable experience. At the end of the show, the exploration of the sky will continue in the astronomical garden, where visitors will be able to observe with the naked eye and with a telescope – under the guidance of the Association’s operators – the celestial objects illustrated in the planetarium.

Saturday 12th August instead it is the turn ofmost awaited event of the astronomical summer: the “Night of the Perseids”, dedicated to the discovery of the Perseid meteor shower, known to all as the shooting stars of San Lorenzo. The event, divided into three shifts (8.30pm; 9.30pm and 10.30pm), will allow adults and children to get to know – through projections in the planetarium and observations – the phenomenon of shooting stars, which again this year promise a unmissable show. The event is part of the dissemination initiative of the Italian Astronomers Union “The nights of the stars and the summer sky”.

To the delight of adults and children Friday 18 August at the Astronomical Park of Rocca di Papa is scheduled theAstromeeting “The Sagittarius Teapot” of the initiative “Stars at the planetarium” to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of astronomy, with a multimedia show under the dome of the planetarium and guided observations of the sky with the naked eye and with the large 40 cm diameter Dobsonian telescope . Friday 25th August – on the occasion of“The Science of the Blue Supermoon” Stargazer included in the homonymous national initiative of the Italian Amateur Astronomers Union – instead we will talk about the Supermoon and the Blue Moon, terms that fascinate and intrigue the public so much, to understand their meaning. There will be guided observations of the sky with a telescope.

To close the rich review of events is the Night Star & Moon Walk on Saturday 26th August, the long-awaited night walk that winds its way around the “Livio Gratton” Astronomical Park, in one of the darkest and most evocative places in the Castelli Romani, where it is still possible to observe the starry sky with the naked eye. The Night Star & Moon Walk, carried out in collaboration with the Castelli Romani Natural Park, is part of the “Things never seen 2023” project. The night walk will be an opportunity to get to know not only the wonders of the sky, but also the geological history of the Lazio volcano, the local flora and fauna.
