Analyzing the First Unofficial Depth Chart for the Dallas Cowboys in Preseason

While Dallas continues to prepare in Oxnard, their first preseason clash is just a few days away. Which will be on Saturday afternoon against the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium. Along with this, the first depth table for this campaign has been seen. Which is not really official, but to align the dressing room for the meeting. As expected, there are some things that attract attention and even inconsistencies. That is why it is necessary to point out what has been seen as the most important of it.

The first thing has to do with the offensive line. Since some things are noted that obviously do not fully fit with what has been seen in California. First off, he looks like the backup to Tyron Smith at left tackle to Chuma Edoga. Something that does not go hand in hand with the results that have been seen in Oxnard. Tyron’s natural backup would definitely be Tyler Smith. They just can’t put him there since they have him locked up on the roster as the starting guard on that side.

And on the right, if the Zack Martin thing can’t be worked out, Matt Farniok will almost certainly start at guard there. Although in the list he can be seen as the left guard behind Tyler Smith.

Likewise, we have the situation of the backup brokers. In the table you can see Rico Dowdle above Malik Davis. And all this can have an interesting explanation. Since on Monday Tony Pollard was not participating in practices. Instead, both Dowdle and Davis shared first-team reps. Of course, one name has to go before another. But that has nothing to do with it since both running backs will see some snaps this Saturday as part of their preparation.

The same is true on offense with the receiving corps. While it is true that behind Lamb is Fehoko and at the end of the line Jalen Brooks, this may change in just a few days. Jalen has shown a lot in California and as a seventh round rookie he is drawing a lot of eyes. It would not be unreasonable to think that he ends up on the roster over Fehoko. Also, we must talk about David Durden. Who has been left out of the match due to a concussion he suffered in practice on Tuesday. If this had not been the case, perhaps we would also be talking about something else.

Defensively, the first thing that clearly catches your eye is seeing Micah Parsons at linebacker. Much has been said about the definitive change of him as a defensive end. But in the words of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, they prefer the player to keep that top-tier versatility that he commands. So for the moment, in the tables he will continue to be seen as LB.

As for the defensive line, things get a little more interesting. Osa Odighizuwa appears as the first defensive tackle with technique 3, while Gallimore is second. In the case of the latter, there is a lot of talk about the possibility that he will not make the 53 roster. In his place, Chauncey Golston could go after Osa. Who also offers the versatility to also work as a defensive end.

And returning to the linebackers, both Damone Clark and DeMarvion Overshown are seen with greater hierarchy in the coming weeks. The first would go as a starter if Parsons happens to play defensive end. And in the case of rookie Overshown, he would become the No. 3 linebacker behind Clark and Leighton Vander Esch thanks to what he has shown in California.

As you can see, you don’t have to pay much attention to these tables since there is nothing definitive yet. In fact, there are many names that are above others and are only there even to fill in the spaces. The results will be seen in practices and preseason duels. That is where it will be possible to determine who are the ones that will ultimately reach the final roster.
