Almost 700 athletes have passed through the Alberg Esportiu Àster de l’Hospitalet de l’Infant so far this summer, as reported by the municipal company that manages its operation, Llastres Serveis Municipals SL. They are people who during the months of June and July have participated in campuses and stays organized by various clubs and federations throughout Catalonia, mainly; but also from other parts of Spain and Andorra, from different sports disciplines.
Among these stays stand out those of the Catalan Volleyball Federation, which have moved 338 people; those of the Catalan Badminton Federation, with forty participants; and the football campus of Jana Fernàndez, player of the first women’s team of FC Barcelona, which attracts around thirty athletes. Other entities that have also chosen Hospitalet de l’Infant as the headquarters of their summer campuses are: the Andorran Sailing Federation, the Escaldes-Engordany Rhythmic Sailing Club, the CTE. Rugby (Barcelona), the Alcarràs Tennis and Padel Club, 433 Academy de fútbol (Lleida) and Aranjuez Basketball.
It must be borne in mind that athletes staying at the Alberg Esportiu Àster have access to a large number of municipal sports facilities (indoor swimming pool, gym, directed activity rooms, pavilions, tennis courts, paddle tennis courts, artificial turf fields, etc. .) and also, they can enjoy a natural environment characterized by the combination of sea and mountains, where a great variety of nautical and other types of activities (hiking, climbing, mountain biking, etc.) is offered, as highlighted by the Councilor for Sports Yolanda Marquis.
The Alberg Esportiu Àster, which has 40 rooms, was built at the beginning of the seventies, together with the rest of the buildings that make up the town of HIFRENSA de l’Hospitalet de l’Infant (the current Hifrensa Urbanization), by the famous architect Antonio Bonet Castellana, to welcome the families of the workers of the Vandellòs I nuclear power plant.
