2nd league Schalke victory in double majority – Hansa cheers very late

Schalke benefited from two dismissals in the 3-0 win against FCK. Newly promoted Elversberg gave up his debut win in injury time and lost to Rostock.
Promotion aspirant FC Schalke has averted the impending false start in the 2nd Bundesliga thanks to a long majority. A good week after the 3:5 at Hamburger SV, coach Thomas Reis’ team celebrated a 3:0 (1:0) home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
League debutants SV Elversberg, on the other hand, have to wait for their first win in the club’s history in the second division. In the 1:2 (0:0) at home against Hansa Rostock, the promoted team even missed a penalty and only had to accept the two goals in added time.
The perfect start to the season with two victories was achieved not only by the new leaders Rostock but also by Holstein Kiel with a 2-1 (0-0) win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Promotion candidates FC St. Pauli and Fortuna Düsseldorf drew 0-0. After a red card against defender Karol Mets, the Hanseatic League played outnumbered from the 83rd minute. The loudly protesting St. Pauli coach Fabian Hürzeler saw the yellow card.
Terodde initiates Schalke victory
In front of 61,801 spectators in the Veltins Arena, Simon Terodde (13th minute), Kenan Karaman (70th) and Bryan Lasme (90th + 2) scored in the duel between the traditional clubs for Schalke. The Lauterers not only had to cope with the second defeat in the second game of the season, but also the red card for goalkeeper Andreas Luthe (39th) and the traffic light card for Boris Tomiak (57th).
Elversberg had already gambled away a two-goal advantage in the 2-2 win at Hannover 96 last matchday. Against Rostock, the chances of a maiden win were even greater for the league debutants: after Carlo Sichinger’s opening goal (55′), Jannik Rochelt had the opportunity to decide in the 90th minute from the penalty spot – but he missed.
Rostock’s Perea: “It’s a dream for me”
Rostock’s newcomer Juan José Perea then met. The Colombian, who was loaned out from VfB Stuttgart just the day before, scored two goals in added time (90./+10 and 90./+13) and turned the 0-1 lead into a 2-1. “It’s a dream for me,” Perea then told Sky TV.
Kiel was also able to turn their home game around after Fürth’s striker Branimir Hrgota (63rd minute) scored a goal worth seeing. After a mistake by Kiel’s goalkeeper Thomas Dähne, Hrgota shot the ball from around 40 meters into an empty goal. But shortly thereafter and within just four minutes, Jonas Sterner (67th) and Shuto Machino (71st/penalty kick) managed the turnaround to Kiel victory with their goals.
Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC had already lost the second match of the new season at home against newly promoted SV Wehen Wiesbaden with a score of 1-0 on Friday evening. SC Paderborn had to settle for a 1-1 draw against VfL Osnabrück despite a goal assist from newcomer Max Kruse.
