Great fear in the Halstenberg house! The evening before Marcel Halstenberg (31) started the second division against Elversberg (2: 2), his daughter Ivy (4) had to go to the hospital – symptoms of poisoning!
Poison alarm at Halstenberg’s daughter!
The girl had prepared a “mud soup” in the garden and drank water into which some yew needles had fallen. The yew is the only conifer native to our latitudes, almost all parts of which are poisonous. Since ancient times it has been considered the tree of death.
Marcel Halstenberg’s wife Franziska called the poison control center, which initially calmed her down. However, after little Ivy vomited twice while sleeping, the Halstenbergs drove to the hospital. Mum and daughter stayed the night – luckily the all clear was given after that.
Franziska Halstenberg posted a photo from the clinic on Instagram on Saturday evening and wrote with relief: “Fortunately everything went well and we were even able to come to the game today. Nevertheless, something like this does not go unnoticed.”
Addressing all parents, she warned: “Reminder: the yew is not called the tree of death for nothing. Other plants in domestic gardens are also highly toxic. Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones.”

And: “The insidious thing about the yew is that there is no antidote. Don’t be afraid to call the poison control center in such cases, they can best assess the situation and tell you what to do.”
After the exciting night in the clinic, little Ivy kept her fingers crossed for her dad in the stadium against Elversberg – in a small Halstenberg jersey and with a 96 cap on her head. Unfortunately it wasn’t a celebration party.
Ex-Leipziger Marcel Halstenberg didn’t look good when the goal made it 0-1 and stayed in the dressing room at the break – at his own request.
Halstenberg: “I felt good, that’s why I started. I then noticed that my fitness level was not at 100 percent. The coach and I talked, the signal for substitution came from me.”
Hannover 96 did not get more than 2: 2 against promoted teams (after being 0: 2 behind). This is not how Halstenberg had imagined his start in the second division. But fortunately his daughter is doing well again – and that’s more important than any football game.
