Vondrousova knocks out Bouzkova to advance to Wimbledon quarter-finals

Finalist at Roland-Garros, in 2019 (against Ashleigh Barty) but never qualified for the second week at Wimbledon – where she had never even done better than a 2nd round, in 2021 – Marketa Vondrousova qualified this Sunday for the first quarter-finals of her career at Wimbledon, after her victory in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-3) over her compatriot Marie Bouzkova.

First dominated by Bouzkova, Caroline Garcia’s faller in the previous round and quarter-finalist last year in London, the Czech raised the level and hardened her shots, to end the game with a total of 37 winning shots, against only 15 for his opponent, despite a significant loss (44 unforced errors).

Vondrousova will face the winner of the Pegula-Tsurenko match in the next round, a match that started on court 1 and which currently sees the American lead in the first set against the Ukrainian.
