He will “fight to ensure that we always stay as close to reality as possible,” added the 41-year-old. That’s important in order to achieve our goals. One of them is knowing early on that we’re going to play in the Bundesliga and making sure that we can make another step forward afterwards.” VfB, who had only secured relegation in the relegation, “need a good attitude in order not to put us under unnecessary pressure”.

Hoeneß finds it “great” that the Swabians will have greater financial resources in the future thanks to the support of Mercedes, Porsche and MHP. But he doesn’t feel that “the pressure of expectations is increasing. It has already been communicated that the money from the sale of the shares will not be used directly for the squad. We still cannot make the big leaps.”

Hoeneß took over VfB from Bruno Labbadia in April. It was “a demanding task right from the start,” said the coach at Stuttgarter Zeitung / Nachrichten: “Of course, I weighed up the opportunities and risks in advance. But I didn’t really think long because I saw the quality in the team. And that was confirmed from day one. That’s why I’m optimistic about the new season.”
