Boxscore

The Untouchables Paderborn struggled to a narrow 6:5 win against the Berlin Flamingos in game one of their two-game series in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga North on Saturday evening. Paderborn led from the first inning, but the Flamingos stayed tuned throughout the game. In the ninth inning, Berlin made it exciting again, but the door to the extra innings remained closed. Game two follows on Sunday afternoon.

An error by Joshua Spezia gave the U’s a 2-0 lead in the first inning through Maurice Bendrien and Darrion Richards. An error on the other side made it possible for Armando Perez to shorten to 1:2 directly in the second stroke for Berlin. Florian Herwig restored the old gap with an RBI single in the same inning. Another round later, it was Joel Chongo Rivera who brought the Flamingos to 2:3 with an RBI single.

Ladislaus Landwehr for Paderborn and Rivera for Berlin then exchanged Sac Flies in the fourth and fifth inning to make it 4:3 for the East Westphalians. In the eighth inning, Paderborn seemed to be able to bring about the final decision when Maurice Bendrien used a wild pitch to make it 5:3 and Luca Rammelmann added an RBI single. But the flamingos still had an arrow in their quiver. Maikel Azcuy reduced the deficit to 5:6 with a 2-run double in the ninth inning. But despite zero out, the Flamingos were no longer able to equalize.
