Tragedy on the Gran Sasso. A 45-year-old mountaineer from Rome lost his life on via Mirka, on the Corno Piccolo, in the locality of Prati di Tivo. The victim was roped with a companion when he flew down the slope and sadly died.
The second on the roped immediately alerted 118. The Alpine and Speleological Rescue was activated, which left with the helicopter rescue. The helicopter sent an Alpine and Speleological Rescue technician down the face who recovered the unharmed mountaineer, while the other technicians recovered the body of the deceased mountaineer.
